Day 11 in the Casey Anthony trial saw only one witness the entire day.
Forensics can be a bit boring but this witness was anything but. A total geek (but loveable) Dr. Arpad Vass who is a forensic anthropologist testified about the air samples that were taken from the trunk of the car.
The problem with this testing is that it is so new that it is almost unbelievable. Dr. Vass was very credible in his knowledge but honestly, this all leaves too much room for reasonable doubt.
Dr. Vass testified that there were abnormally high levels of chloroform in the trunk of the car. As we will soon hear from the prosecution, computers seized from the Anthony household showed that someone searched for "chloroform, how to make chloroform and other related searches" in March.
Many have already theorized that "Zanny" was Casey's nickname for Xanax which she used to put Caylee to sleep so she could go out and party. Maybe she ran out of Xanax and started to use chloroform to subdue Caylee and accidentally gave her too much?
Once again, tons of theories but what can actually be proven?
In a death penalty case, the prosecution needs to prove pre-meditation and also cause of death. When Caylee Anthony's body was found on December 11, 2008, only skeletal remains and some duct tape were left. She was wrapped in a blanket that could have been from her bedroom (one was missing) and stuffing in a laundry bag that was a match to one found in the Anthony household.
The medical examiner said that the cause of death was undetermined but called the death a homicide because of the age of the child and the fact that her remains were found dumped in a field. That does not prove murder. It could have been an accident and her body disposed of inappropriately. Maybe it was accidental and Casey got scared because she was partially to blame for Caylee's death. She gave her too much chloroform (which is a crime) and the result was Caylee's death.
The reason the prosecution went for the death penalty is because of the media coverage and public outrage. Had they really been thinking there is no way they would have asked for the death penalty. I believe that the jury will have the option to convict her on a lesser charge. I cannot see that she is going to be convicted of anything more than manslaughter - if she is even convicted of that. I believe that Casey Anthony did kill her daughter. There is little doubt in my mind but everyone in this country is innocent until proven guilty.
I just don't believe that the proof is there (yet).
