Is One Hair Enough?

Saturday testimony was all about the forensics today in the Casey Anthony trial. CSI and FBI technicians took the stand to discuss the testing of the trunk area of Casey's car.

One hair that belonged to Caylee was found in the trunk and according to tests, this hair came off of Caylee's head when she was already deceased.

For those who are not familiar with DNA testing and forensics, they can test a hair and be able to tell if it is human or animal and if it came off a living or dead person. They can also tell if the hair was naturally shed or if it had been pulled out. This is relatively simple and easy for the layman to understand. It seems that the jury was paying close attention to the testimony and several jurors were taking notes.

This one hair that was found in the trunk and was from Caylee's dead body would lead one to believe that Caylee's body was in that trunk. Is one hair enough?

The defense tried to dismiss the one hair found and aside from trying to discredit the technician/expert, Jose Baez also tried to insinuate why the jury wasn't shown pictures of this one hair. He also got the FBI expert to admit that she would have liked to have more hairs to test in order to present a stronger case.

Is this one hair going to be enough for the jury to believe that Caylee's body was in the trunk of this car?

Aside from the one hair, the air testing was presented. The process of collecting the air from the trunk is almost sci-fi sounding unless you think about it like this. A dead body gives off gases which in turn create a smell. "Capturing the air" is really capturing these gases and testing them.

The smell in the car and most especially the trunk has already been testified to by many witnesses as smelling like human decomposition. This is not a precise science and Jose Baez will be making sure to hammer that point to the jury.

Between the one hair from Caylee's dead body and the results of the air test done to the trunk, does this prove murder?

Well...it proves that Caylee's body was decomposing in the trunk. She could have died accidentally and then her body was in the trunk or she died in the trunk- who knows? Unless Casey Anthony suddenly decides to repent her sins and confess I don't think we are going to get concrete, beyond a reasonable doubt evidence to prove murder.

So far, the only thing that the prosecution has proved is that Casey Anthony lied to the police. So far, the charge of not cooperating with a police investigation is the only thing that they can convict her on.

Child negligence- maybe. She didn't know where her child was for 31 days and did not report her missing.

Murder, especially a death penalty case will take much more than one hair and an experimental air test.

Court resumes Monday morning.
